San Fernando Cathedral 1230-1

San Antonio

The San Fernando Cathedral, also known as Cathedral of Our Lady of Candelaria and Guadalupe, is one of the oldest cathedrals in the United States. The building was constructed between 1738-1750 and was named after Ferdinand III of Castile who ruled in the 1200s. The cathedral is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and Pope Jonh Paul II even visited in 1987 - his only stop in Texas. Photo © copyright by Rob Greebon.
