Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church 1
Located in Ammannsville, Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church was built in 1919 and is part of the National Register of Historic Places. The current church is the third edtion, the first two succombing to a hurricane (1909) and to a fire eight years later.
This third church was built on the concrete footprint of the second church, though it is much simpler.
Known as the “Pink Church,” legend has it a wandering artist painted the walls of St. Johns the current rosy pink seen today, then vanished upon its completion. Whatever the case, t is a beautiful place to stop when visiting this group of painted churches. Photo © copyright by Rob Greebon.
