Cathedral of Junk 608-1

South Austin

Vincent Hannemann started his creation, Cathedral of Junk, back in 1987. Now the tower of scrap is one of south Austin’s iconic locations. At one point, he had to file for a building permit. Slowly, it has grown, mostly through donations from others. Now, several staircases lead to vantage points overlooking the mound of metal and plastic. It is an amazing sight, but you must make an appointment. This image was taken by permission of the owner.
