Big Bend Ranch State Park - Closed Canyon 1

Closed Canyon, Big Bend Ranch State Park

Big Bend Ranch State Park is a relatively little visited gem that rests in the shadow of Big Bend National Park. Located to the west between Presidio and Lajitas, some hidden and breathtaking places await exploration. Closed Canyon, seen in this image, is a short walk - ~ .7 miles each way – but takes you through a slot canyon where the walls rise over 100 feet. The canyon divides the Colorado Mesa with its narrow winding slot. The remote trail that is almost always in shadows winds its way to the Rio Grande River, culminating in a steep drop into the water below. The width of the trail ranges from 12-20 feet. The hike is easy, and the scenery is amazing.
