Texas Longhorns Images and Prints

Longhorns are Texas icons, seen as a symbol of ruggedness, pride, and strength. The presence of this breed of cattle dates back to the late 1400s when Christopher Columbus and Spanish colonists brought them to Hispaniola in the Caribbean and the New World. By the 17th century, longhorns had worked their way north into the area that is now the Lone Star State. For nearly two centuries after this, the cattle roamed free across Texas. Today, Longhorns are known and prized for their heartiness and ability to thrive on Texas pastures. They are also the mascot for the flagship university of the state, the University of Texas at Austin.
