Texas State Capitol September Flowers 6

Austin, Texas

In 2008, the American Institute of Architects ranked the Texas State Capitol as the #1 state capitol in a poll for America’s favorite architecture. Resting in the shadow of downtown Austin’s high rises, the red granite building was completed in 1888. The Capitol rises 308 feet, rests on 2.25 acres, and is surrounded by 22 acres of green grass, shrubs, statues, and flowers. In this image from the north lawn just inside the historic iron fence, colorful flowers add beauty to the September morning, and the Texas Capitol can be seen in the distance.
